The 11th Annual High Country 5K Run/Walk
Saturday, April 7, 2012, 8:00 a.m.
Free Kids Fun Run at 9:00 a.m.

Hi. My name is Laura Ellison and I am a member of Shades Crest Baptist Church. I am the Co-Race Chair for the 11th Annual High Country 5K Run/Walk this year. Last year was our biggest race yet, with over 300 runners enjoying a beautiful run or walk through the Bluff Park neighborhoods, a free pasta dinner the night before the race and a delicious pancake breakfast after the race, plus a 1 mile fun run for the children after the 5K. Because of these things and many more, the High Country 5K was voted in 2010 as the 2nd best race in Birmingham by Birmingham Magazine! We are thrilled to have that honor and expect that this year will be even bigger and better! We are also very excited to have Jeff Speegle, Sports Anchor with ABC 33/40 as our emcee for the race this year. If you would be willing to promote, advertise, or cover our event, please contact me at my information listed below. Please click on the High Country 5K Registration Form at the top of the page for information to use in your advertising and promoting on our behalf for this event. Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information. Without the support of our advertisers and promoters like you, this event would not be as special and well-received as it has been over these years! Please accept our sincerest thank you!
There will be a free kids' fun run at 9:00am. Also, an Elementary School Team Challenge will be held for the area elementary schools in which the students at each school will form a team and compete for a combination of shortest time and number of finishing runners. Pre-registration is $20 prior to March 23rd, $25 between March 24 and April 6, and $30 on Race Day. The race includes a t-shirt for the runner, pre-race pasta dinner on Friday night, April 6th, and a post-race pancake breakfast during the awards ceremony for the runners and their families. Attached is a registration form and more information about the race. Registration is available through Raceit.com and space is limited.
Best,
Laura Ellison

Shades Crest Communities Ministries on Facebook
The goal for our Ministry of Recreation is to provide for you and your family a place.
A place for you to grow in the likeness of Christ . . .
The scripture reminds us that Jesus increased in wisdom, and in stature and in
favor with God and man (Luke 2:52). Therefore, the church must minister to the
“whole” person. Recreation is one tool utilized to strengthen and supplement the
church’s ministry in carrying out its God-ordained purposes.
A place for you to play . . .
Many of our events take place outside the walls of our Family Life Center.
However, it has been a valuable addition since its construction in 1981. The
15,000 square foot facility is equipped with a gymnasium, 2 racquetball courts,
game room, craft room and fireside room.
Hours for Open Play
Mon. – Thurs. 9:00-5:00 & 7:00-9:00
Friday 9:00-5:00
Saturday
A place for you to serve . . .
Ongoing – Volunteer at the FLC
Short term – Coach
One day – 5K volunteer, picnic, etc.
A place for you to get acquainted . . .
Many feel that playing together enhances praying together. We have an
open door to all who want to enjoy a facility that focuses on Christian
recreation. (Children 3rd grade and below must be accompanied by an
adult.)
The Ministry of Recreation seeks to accomplish this goal by planning a variety of age appropriate programs in the areas of wellness, sports, socials, drama and crafts and by providing well-trained leaders. Often we assist the other pastoral staff members in their efforts of age group ministries. We find this approach to be RE-CREATING.
