To Reserve FLC time and equipment, Please call 205-822-1750. The FLC hours are 10am-9pm, Mon., Tues., and Thurs. and 10am-5pm on Wednesdays. Summer hours begin Monday, May 30. Summer hours will be 10am-7pm, Mon., Tues., and Thurs. and 10am-5pm on Wednesdays. Notice: Hours and FLC availability may change due to Church activities and staff availablity.

We ask that all guests follow the following guidelines

General FLC Guidelines:

  1. The Family Life Center (FLC) is a part of the Ministry of Shades Crest Baptist Church. Those participating in its programs should dress and conduct themselves accordingly.
  2. Guests 13 years of age and below must be accompanied by an adult (19 years and up) while using the FLC. Groups including those 14 years of age and under must have at least one adult accompanying them.
  3. No food or drink allowed outside the snack area.
  4. Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times.
  5. No running in areas outside of gym.
  6. The use of obscene language is prohibited in the FLC.
  7. The use of tobacco and alcohol products is prohibited in the FLC.
  8. Clothing with alcohol, tobacco advertisements, obscene or suggestive language, or is too revealing is not permitted.
  9. No pets or animals are allowed in the FLC except for service animals.

Fitness Center Guidelines:

  1. You must be 14 years of age or older to use fitness center.
  2. DO NOT try and lift more than you are comfortable and capable of lifting.
  3. Clean and store equipment after use (Includes re-racking weights).
  4. Report any damage or malfunctioning equipment to the front desk personnel.
  5. Only water in bottles with closing lids is allowed in the fitness center. Food items are not allowed.
  6. First come, first serve on the equipment (upon arrival-you can sign up for a 30 minute session on one cardio piece).
  7. Appropriate clothing must be worn at all times. Shoes that cover the entire foot must be worn (no open toe)
  8. Television programming will be monitored by front desk personnel. DO NOT turn cable boxes off, only TV monitors.
  9. The use of the Fitness Center and all equipment will be at the risk of the participant.

    2. Shades Crest Baptist does not make any expressed or implied warranty of the premises, the equipment, machinery, fixtures or furniture.
  10. Due to our philosophy, limited space and equipment, personal trainers will not be allowed to use the fitness center for personal gain.
  11. Use of the fitness equipment is limited to regular hours of operation.

Gym/Racquetball Guidelines:

  • All gym usage by groups & individuals must be reserved in advance
  • Food, drinks and gum are not allowed in the gym & racquetball court
  • All equipment should be returned to front desk when you finish using it or before other equipment is checked out
  • Tennis shoes and shirts are required for play in the gym or racquetball courts.
  • No dunking on basketball goals
  • No kicking basketballs or throwing against walls
  • Only racquetballs allowed in racquetball courts
  • Personal Trainers are not allowed to use gym for personal gain
  • Do not move bleachers without staff permission

Recreational Opportunities

  • Shades Crest Community Basketball League: Grades 1-6 coed league with the goals for the children to have fun while learning the fundamentals of basketball, playing in each game, demonstrating sportsmanship and developing a proper view of competition. Games are each Saturday, December – February (no games during Holidays).
  • Gym: Basketball, racquetball. All gym usage should be reserved at least 24 hours in advance. See To reserve, please call 205-822-1750
  • Game Room: Pool table, table tennis, and foosball.
  • Men’s Softball: Spring and Summer Hoover Leagues. Sign-up to play now by calling FLC at 822-1750 or Hardy Green at 613-8379.

Fitness Opportunities:

  • High Country 5K: Saturday, April 15, 2023.
  • The Fitness Center: Cardio/weight machines and free weights. Open during regular FLC hours. You must complete a Family Life Center registration form and attend an orientation walk-through before your initial use. Call 822-1750 to schedule an orientation. All guests using The Fitness Center must be at least 14 years of age.
  • Walking Track: 17 laps around inside of gym equals 1 mile. To reserve, please call 205-822-1750.
  • Outdoor Running/Walking Course: See course at right. One Mile Map1
  • Ladies Wake-Up Workout: Tues. and Wed. 9:00-10:00 am. Join us for a fun, ladies only workout! Start out your day with some great music, great company, and the perfect balance of muscle strengthening and toning, low impact cardio, stretching and core work! Cost is just $6 per class. Bring a friend and join us in the gym.

Other Fellowship & Mission Opportunities

  • Piddlers: Tuesdays and Thursdays @ 8:00 am, coffee and fellowship.
  • Senior Moments: Mondays, 9 am-Noon, lunch served at 11:30 am. Cost for lunch is $3. Contact Mark Johnson at 822-1360 for more information. Not currently meeting
  • WMU: First Tuesday of each month, 10 am-Noon.

Fireside Room

The Fireside Room is a meeting room in the FLC furnished in a home-style setting. It is great for small Bible/book studies, teas, class meetings, etc. This area must be reserved in advance by calling 822-1750.

Reserving the FLC

The FLC may be reserved by SCBC Members for parties and other family events. The cost is $50 per event and a reservation form is required. A security deposit of $200 is due upon completion of a reservation form. The deposit is returned provided the facility is left clean and undamaged.

The FLC is currently not available to rent by non-SCBC members due to limited staffing.
